Our Space Science – Exploring the Solar System project was successfully completed with strong participation from all enrolled students. One of the program’s main goals was to reinforce learning through hands-on activities while also encouraging both collaboration and individual creativity.
Thanks to the Orange & Rockland STEM Classroom Grant, we were able to provide all the materials needed to complete the project.
Students were organized into groups to design and produce three large, colorful posters highlighting key facts about the planets in our solar system. Each group conducted research, planned their layout, and presented their final posters to the class, demonstrating improved teamwork and communication skills.
In addition to the group work, each student built an individual 3D solar system model. These models were constructed using a variety of materials and showcased the students’ understanding of planetary order, relative sizes, and unique characteristics. By combining group poster design with hands-on individual projects, the program reinforced scientific concepts while fostering creativity and ownership of learning. Overall, the program achieved its objectives of making planetary science engaging, collaborative, and memorable for all participants.
